New Kuta Golf Crowned Best Course in Indonesia
Teamwork and a positive attitude contributed to New Kuta Golf being crowned as the Best Course in Indonesia at the 2017 World Golf Awards.
The accolade was a fitting acknowledgement of the Golfplan-designed course that celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2017 and further enhanced Bali’s reputation as one of the world’s most appealing golfing getaways.
Bagus W. Kurniadji, General Manager at New Kuta Golf, said: “It is a tremendous honour for New Kuta Golf to be named as the Best Course in Indonesia.
“We thank our members and guests … and all of those who voted for us. They have believed in us and given us the motivation to work harder.
“Our company is run with the vision of teamwork, positive attitude and loyalty. It is the common objective of all of us to be the best in Indonesia.
“The award is testament to the efforts of our dedicated staff who are committed, day-in and day-out, to make New Kuta Golf one of the best and most recognisable golf venues in Indonesia.”
Less than half-an-hour from the International Airport Ngurah Rai on the south-western rim of the island’s Bukit Peninsula, within the Pecatu Indah Resort grounds, New Kuta Golf is one of the partners of Play Golf Bali, a group that also includes Bali National Golf Club, Handara Golf & Resort Bali and Bukit Pandawa Golf & Country Club along with Baltic Tour and Travel, one of Indonesia’s foremost golf travel operator.
Carved out of harsh limestone and edged between the brilliant white limestone cliffs and the blue horizon of the Indian Ocean, New Kuta Golf was the venue for the 2009 Indonesian Open, won by Thailand’s Thongchai Jaidee. It has also staged the Bali Open and Indonesia Ladies Open in 2010 and an Asian Development Tour event in 2017.
Natural desert-like vegetation with native trees, a semi Scottish rough of existing shrubs, long grass and creepers give the layout a genuine championship feel. There are memorable oceanfront holes and challenging inland holes.
Precariously perched above the ocean, holes 14, 15 and 16 are among the most photographed in Asia. Hole 15 is famously recognised for its stunning sunset view facing the Indian Ocean. If the sky is clear, the highest volcanic mountain in Bali, Mount Agung, can be seen.
Bagus W. Kurniadji said: “The last 10 years have been a great journey for us. During that time we’ve hosted several significant championships as well as witnessed the growth of the golf industry in Indonesia and also the unique market of golf in Bali.
“Over the past decade at New Kuta Golf we have prided ourselves on our general service standards, including our well-trained caddies. Furthermore, along with our sister companies – Palm Hill Golf Club, Bogor and newly-built Black Rocks Golf Belitung – we have placed a strong emphasis on promoting a junior/beginner programme to encourage new faces to the course.
“By receiving this award we hope we will be able to spread the word about New Kuta Golf, Bali and all destinations in Indonesia to golfers around the world.”
The results were determined by an online survey conducted on World Golf Awards this year. Votes were cast by the public as well as professionals working within the golf travel and tourism industry, including senior executives, travel buyers, tour operators, agents and media professionals.
St Andrews Links (Old Course) in Scotland scooped the award for the World’s Best Golf Course, while The Belfry in the English Midlands was recognised as Europe’s Best Golf Hotel and Portugal picked up the trophy for World’s Best Golf Destination.
Chris Frost, World Golf Awards’ Managing Director, said: “The fourth instalment of the World Golf Awards has been the most successful to date, welcoming industry leaders to Murcia, Spain, for a weekend of golf, networking opportunities and our fabulous Gala Ceremony.
“It has been an honour to recognise so many world-class organisations and I offer my sincere congratulations to all our winners.
“World Golf Awards serves to celebrate and reward excellence in golf tourism, world class courses and golf destinations. While celebrating and rewarding excellence across golf resorts, courses and the golfing destinations throughout the world, the 2017 World Golf Awards strive to ultimately raise the golf tourist customer experience and stimulate both the domestic and international golf tourism market,” said a spokesperson.
